Dick Brainard Is Eighth National Champion

Dick Brainard and his boat Brer Fox won the eighth annual Thistle National Championship at Racine, August 25-28, with a total of 12½ points. After an initial unexpected first place finish, Brainard capitalized on his lead to win the championship ahead of Harry Sindle's Vim II and Sandy Douglass's Paukie I. The regatta featured excellent conditions and the largest turnout of visitors in championship history.

Ronald J. Small of Huntington, L.I., was elected president of the Thistle Class Association at the annual meeting in Racine. The new administration includes George Hamilton as first vice president, Les Heyer as second vice president and director of publicity, John Spangenberg as measurer, and a new editorial team for the Bagpipe. Tony Hermann and Jim Hendricksen were elected to honorary positions of commodore and vice commodore.
